Contract Type: Contract
Overview
We are seeking an experienced DB2 Consultant with strong expertise in IBM Db2/Db2 Warehouse, Microsoft SQL Server, and data migration/transformation projects within complex enterprise environments. The consultant will support the redesign and optimisation of critical reporting and metrics processes, ensuring compatibility between legacy and future systems while improving performance, maintainability, and scalability.
The successful candidate will work closely with technical and business stakeholders to redesign existing processes, convert SQL Server logic to Db2-compatible solutions, and provide strategic guidance on integrating historical data with a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) platform.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong hands-on experience with IBM Db2 and Db2 Warehouse
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL scripting
* Experience converting SQL Server-based solutions to Db2 environments
* Strong ETL and data integration experience, ideally with IBM DataStage
* Experience designing scalable database and reporting solutions
* Strong performance tuning and optimisation skills
* Experience working within large Public Sector
* Excellent documentation, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge transfer skills
Priority 1: Statistical Process Control (SPC) Process Redevelopment
The organisation currently operates an SPC process that pushes a large volume of metric data through a Microsoft SQL Server script originally developed. The existing solution contains extensive warning and annotation sections that are no longer required and requires modernisation to improve maintainability and performance.
The consultant will review the current implementation and redesign the process using a modular approach, leveraging DataStage jobs and Db2-compatible functionality.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and analyse SQL Server script
* Identify and document the core business and technical logic
* Design and develop a modular replacement solution using DataStage and Db2
* Convert SQL Server-specific functions and processes into Db2-compatible equivalents
* Create intermediate data structures and temporary tables where appropriate
* Conduct testing and validation to ensure accuracy and performance
* Produce technical documentation and operational procedures
* Deliver knowledge transfer and handover sessions to internal teams
Priority 2: EPR (Rio) Metrics Transformation
The organisation is implementing a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, which will significantly impact its existing reporting and metric processes. Many metrics will require redesign to account for changes in data structures and source systems.
A key challenge will be maintaining three years of historical SPC reporting by combining data from both legacy and new EPR platforms while ensuring accuracy and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess existing and future EPR data structures, including Rio
* Define the optimal strategy for integrating historical and future metric datasets
* Design solutions for combining legacy and new EPR data sources
* Evaluate impacts on existing reporting and SPC processes
* Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and performance
* Develop proof-of-concept solutions and representative implementations
* Conduct testing, validation, and performance benchmarking
* Produce detailed technical documentation
* Deliver knowledge transfer and handover sessions to internal teams
Desirable Experience
* Digital reporting methodologies
* Healthcare data warehouse environments
* Clinical and operational reporting systems
* Data migration and platform transition programmes
* Statistical Process Control (SPC) reporting frameworks
* Information Server/DataStage
Deliverables
* Redesigned SPC process within Db2/DataStage
* Converted and optimised SQL logic
* EPR integration strategy and recommendations
* Proof of Concept (POC) implementation
* Technical and support documentation
* Knowledge transfer and operational handover to internal teams
