Job description
Job title: Principal Engineer - Java Microservices Developer
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid)
Contract: 6 Months
Day Rate: £450 per day
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to design, develop, and support secure, scalable, and high-performing software solutions. You will provide technical leadership, contribute to solution design, and work closely with Product Owners, Architects, and Engineering teams within an Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain Java-based applications and microservices.
* Contribute to solution design and technical delivery.
* Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
* Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
* Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
* Resolve production issues and ensure system reliability.
* Mentor engineers and promote best practices.
Essential Skills
* Java Spring Boot Microservices
* React Single Page Applications (SPA)
* PostgreSQL
* API Gateway technologies: TYK, Apigee, DataPower
* Cloud platforms: AWS, PCF, TAS
* Integration & batch tools: StreamSets, Airflow, ESP Services, GSS
* CI/CD, Agile delivery, and DevOps practices
