Job description

Working alongside user researchers, service designers, interaction designers, business analysts, product managers and technical colleagues, you will contribute throughout the service lifecycle, using evidence and research to continually test, iterate and improve the experience.

What you'll do
* Design, create and iterate user-centred content and end-to-end content journeys across digital and, where required, offline channels.
* Understand user needs through user research, analytics, feedback and other evidence, and use those insights to inform design decisions.
* Turn complex policy, legal and technical information into content that is clear, concise and easy to understand.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary agile team, contributing from discovery through to live service.
* Prototype and test content and iterate it based on evidence.
* Work with policy, legal, operational and delivery stakeholders to balance user needs, policy intent and delivery constraints.
* Design inclusive and accessible content, considering different access needs from the outset.
* Contribute to content standards, patterns and the wider content design community.
This reflects the Digital and Data profession's emphasis on content that helps users achieve their goals, involvement from discovery, and close working with user research, service design and interaction design.

What we're looking for
Essential
You'll have demonstrable experience of:
* designing and iterating digital content based on identified user needs
* applying GDS content design principles and standards
* using user research, data and evidence to make and explain content decisions
* simplifying complex information and creating clear user journeys
* working effectively within agile, multidisciplinary teams
* collaborating with stakeholders while advocating for user needs
* designing accessible and inclusive content
* communicating and presenting design decisions clearly
* working iteratively and responding to changing priorities
These capabilities support the Service Standard, particularly understanding users and their needs, solving whole problems, providing joined-up experiences, making services simple and accessible, multidisciplinary working, agile delivery and frequent iteration.
Desirable
* 5+ years' experience working as a Content Designer, within complex public-sector environments
* previous experience of delivering services within a GDS environment
* experience with publishing platforms or content management systems
* working knowledge of HTML and structured content
* understanding of WCAG 2.2 AA and public-sector accessibility requirements
