
Our client is looking for a OpenShift SME to join their team on a contract initially until the end of November, working three days a week onsite in Sheffield and rest remote. This role is Inside IR35.
In this role, you will:
* Own OpenShift cluster lifecycle: Day 0 provisioning, Day 1 configuration, and Day 2 operations.
* Plan and execute platform upgrades, patching, and version compatibility management (OCP/RHCOS/Operators).
* Implement and maintain platform security controls (RBAC, SCC, network policies, image governance, compliance baselines).
* Build and maintain automation using Ansible, GitOps (ArgoCD/OpenShift GitOps), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu).
* Manage and optimize OpenShift networking (OVN-Kubernetes, Multus, ingress/egress, load balancer integration).
* Manage storage integration and lifecycle (StorageClass, CSI drivers, provisioning, performance tuning).
* Integrate OpenShift with enterprise services (DNS, NTP, LDAP/AD/OIDC, PKI/certificates, monitoring, logging, ServiceNow).
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree/ Diploma/B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
* 12+ years in Linux/platform engineering, with 3+ years of hands-on OpenShift/Kubernetes operations in enterprise environments.
* Proven experience operating production OpenShift clusters at scale.
Technical Requirements
* Strong hands-on expertise in OpenShift (cluster install/configuration, Operators, upgrades, troubleshooting).
* Deep knowledge of Kubernetes concepts (scheduling, networking, storage, security, controllers, CRDs).
* Hands-on experience with KubeVirt/OpenShift Virtualization, including VM provisioning, lifecycle operations (start/stop/migrate/snapshot), storage/network integration, and performance troubleshooting.
* Strong Linux administration skills (RHEL/RHCOS), shell scripting, and system troubleshooting.
* Experience with automation and IaC tools: Ansible, Terraform/OpenTofu, GitOps (ArgoCD/OpenShift GitOps).
* Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, logging/tracing platforms).
* Working knowledge of enterprise identity/security integrations (LDAP/AD, OIDC, certificates, secrets management).
* Familiarity with container security practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., CIS benchmarks, vulnerability management).
* Good understanding of storage and networking in container platforms (CSI/CNI, ingress, load balancing).
